Work Outfit, and How Much I Love the Salvation Army

Isn't it amazing how dress can affect attitude? Today I dressed smartly and responsibly and as a result I feel like a super-competent intern, ready to impress the entire company while crossing tasks off my list like some kind of task-completing superintern. Amazing. The above is representative of my outfit, except that my necklace is 2 strands turquoise beads and 1 strand of tiny rhinestones, and it was only $10 from Urban Outfitter's; my bag is just a turquoise crossbody with a little fringe detail; my belt is a ruched black satin Calvin Klein with a shiny seatbelt-buckle closure; and my shoes are strappy black wedges, not peeptoe slingbacks. But hey, close enough.

The shirt is a black men's express shirt, size S, which fits great because it's stretchy. I got it at the Salvation Army for $1. Let me just give a shoutout to this salvation army. If you ever find yourself in Northern Massachusets, there are 3 places you must visit: Newburyport, Salisbury Beach, and this Salvation Army. It's in Haverill, which is a dump, but it's like the size of a small department store and filled with great finds. I got $70 worth of Calvin Klein, Geoffrey Beene, Oscar de la Renta, Van Heusen, and Jessica McClintock. I'll take pictures of them all later - most of them are wonderful button-ups, half for my boyfriend who is lacking in appropriate business attire (he wears button ups from Wal Mart and dress pants that are a size too big, although his suit jackets are pristine!) and the other half is for me, because I adore the menswear look. They are all in great shape and have beautiful fabrication. I'm so excited! All the shirts were $5 or under, some of them $1 because of the tag sales they have every day (each day, a different color tag on a garment magically turns all of those garments into $1 steals). Then I got 2 black purses that I could start a DIY project, a fringed handbag.

It's not turning out too well at the moment because after I cut up my cheap PVC Nine West purse, it turned out to have interfacing attached to EVERY piece. So I have to sew pieces together, which upsets my sewing machine ... and it's not very hangy, either. I may need to find some real leather, though I am reluctant to cut up my leather binder and leather messenger bag from the Salvation Army (guys, I went crazy. I only had an hour and a half in there, and I could've spent at least 5 hours more!)

My internship is almost over and I've learned so much. Post on that coming soon. In the meantime, I ask you: what outfit makes you feel capable of accomplishing any task? Because I want to copy it. XOXO

Should I go back to the flea market and buy this??

Found this New York & Co. Blazer at the flea market yesterday. Didn't buy it because it was $25 and I'm broke, but now I'm really wanting to go back and get it.

Reminds me of:

SHOULD I GO BACK AND GET IT TOMORROW??? I'm kind of thinking I should!

Outfit Post: Shorts!

Shorts are very difficult to find for me. First off, I REFUSE to wear low-rise anything. Not only because a low-rise pant is ill-fitting on all but the smallest of people, but also because low-rise shorts tend to be about 6 inches too short on me as I am almost 5'10''. I prefer my pants and shorts to have a rise of at least 9 inches! ("Rise" refers to the amount of fabric from right between your legs where that 4-way seam between legs/center front/back meets, and the front top part of your pants, like where they close. A low rise is usually around 6-7 inches, and a mid to high rise can be anywhere from 8-11" - the higher the rise, the closer the top of the pants are to your natural waist.) Anyway, I was lucky enough this season to score 3 awesome well-fitting shorts: a black pair of Juicy Couture shorts from Ebay, and a dark wash denim pair and a khaki pair from TJ Maxx (my favorite store in the universe). Here are some ways that I have paired them so far!

I went walking around Bloomington with my best friend Richie and wore this outfit with a white seersucker blazer and gladiator sandals:

sorry for the crappy webcam pic.
Richie and I matched because he was wearing the white seersucker men's shirt that I made this semester! It has purple lined french cuffs that you can't see because he rolled them up.

We wandered around on the railroad tracks!

And another shorts outfit, from a carnival at my dorm a few weeks ago.

my shorts were wrinkly, ew. Then it got cold so I put on a blazer (love blazers!) and boots.

Boyfriend looked cute too :)

Cute oufits I wore while I wasn't updating my blog

Oh geez, where do I begin. Merry Christmas? Happy New Year? Happy 20th birthday to me? Yes, I am now 20! Yay! I'm also dating a really super sweet amazing guy now - I am OFFICIALLY douchebag free - and my classes this semester are 90% fashion related so that's SUPER fun. Of course, I'm insanely busy and blogging has fallen to the bottom of my priorities list - don't feel bad though, lots of other things are down there too! Like, showering. Homework. Etc. Although all of these things are great, I am actually getting heart surgery this Friday to examine my Wolff Parkinson White disease, an electrical issue that I was apparently born with although NOBODY NOTICED IT EVER until now. Fail. So I have to awkwardly inform my teachers that I won't be in class for a week recovering, then pretend like it's no big deal when everyone gets really concerned because lets be honest, it's a HUGE deal, but I'm sick of crying all over the place about it (this is where superboyfriend comes into play! He bought me roses and cupcakes yesterday, for no reason other than that I was feeling down!!! ^_^)

Anyway, since I abandoned you all for so long, and probably will again, here are some super cute outfits I wore recently over break and such. They are relevant to your abandonment because frankly, I prefer looking at pictures of people's outfits to reading whatever they have to say anyway, so if you're anything like me, you will enjoy this.

As you can see I am in love with tights. And finally, a pic of me and some of my friends at my 20s Flapper themed birthday party!
